Report Summary

We all know that American health care is expensive.  It’s one of the costliest expenses in our nation.  Since 2012, the United States has spent at least $2.8 trillion on health care yearly.  But according to all the research reports and statistical data out there, the extra funds aren’t doing us any favors; most other developed countries have significantly lower costs.

Here at peer60, we decided to explore one aspect of these high costs that needs to be resolved: unnecessary imaging.  Using our Smart Data platform, we’ve gathered essential insights from nearly 200 medical professionals in a recent two-week period in order to understand how often avoidable scanning occurs, how much it’s costing us, and why it’s happening.

The results, which we explore in this survey, helped us identify just how much the healthcare industry is wasting on CT scans, MRIs, X-rays and other imaging procedures.
